The French Baroque Royalty including "The Four Elements" on two clavecinis from Versailles! Two clavesans from Versailles perform works by two composers at the height of the French Baroque, including "The Four Elements"! This album features two clavesans (harpsichords) performing works by two composers active at the height of the French Baroque, and shows the fascination of the music of the mid-18th century, when the language of French clavesan music became much more flamboyant, to the fullest extent possible on these historical instruments. Both instruments are from the Palace of Versailles, in the former apartment of Madame Victoire, daughter of Louis XV and a lover of clavesan music. One of them was made by Rückels of Antwerpen, a famous 18th-century French manufacturer. It was brought to Versailles at an early date, and eventually underwent a major renovation (Lavarmant) in the French Baroque style. The other instrument, signed in 1746 by Parisian instrument maker François-Etienne Blanchet, is typical of Paris under the reign of Louis XV: the two clavesans sound very sumptuous, and the famous dissonance of "Chaos" at the beginning of "The Four Elements" has a great impact.
