Description:

This is one of ONDINE's focused series of collections of works by composers from the Baltic region. Tonu Kulwitz is considered one of the "best contemporary Estonian composers" along with Arvo Pärt and Erkki-Sven Tur, and his choral work titled "Moorish Dirge" (ODE-1306) was released in 2017, which attracted attention for its profound style. This album includes orchestral works written between 2007 and 2018. Each piece is inspired by a variety of themes, and all have a delicate sound with a Scandinavian feel. The opening piece, "Blue," is a meditative piece originally written for male chorus and arranged for orchestra. Leaving Capri" is Kulwitz's latest work, influenced by the paintings of Estonian artist Konrad Magi. Song of Silence, inspired by Dowland's work, is a fantasy for bass clarinet and orchestra, dedicated to Joost, the album's conductor; 2007's Elegy of the Northernmost is a beautiful piece based on an Estonian folk song.
