Saariaho has a unique presence in the contemporary music scene. This album features three works conducted by Hanne Lintu and features Finley and Mestre, two virtuoso conductors, and offers a chance to hear some of Saariaho's recent works. 2014's "True Fire True Fire" was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, NDR Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre National de France. The work consists of six movements written for the renowned singer Finley. It incorporates various elements such as vocal expression for Saariaho and the place of mankind in nature. Ciel d'hiver" is based on the second movement of the trilogy "Orion," composed in 2002 and rearranged for a small orchestra. It has a French title to distinguish it from the original. Trance, a concerto for harp and orchestra, was co-commissioned by the Suntory Foundation, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, and the Radio France and Hessian Radio Orchestras.
