This is the first <album> work by the father-son unit of shakuhachi player Reishu Fukushima and his son, composer Satoshi Fukushima.

Reaki Fukushima began performing and improvising as a shakuhachi player in the 1990s after an encounter with the Muramatsu-style shakuhachi on Sado Island. His son, Satoshi Fukushima, explores the possibilities of interactive and unknown electronic sounds with the player through real-time computer processing. This is the first <album> work that is a record of the father-son unit in Niigata.

The physical performance of the shakuhachi, which shows deep breathing, is decomposed and processed by computer for immediate response, overlapping the past with the present in an ongoing process, creating a new, multilayered sound image that has not yet been seen. Past and present, body and machine, decomposition and construction, pause and movement, composition and improvisation. The electroacoustic layers are dignified and beautiful, and seem to shine dazzlingly into the future, as if glossy and soft petals are blooming.

Artist Profile: Reishu Fukushima

Reaki Fukushima | Born in 1948.
