George Szell's first appearance live! Schumann 4th with Cleveland, Paris Live! The "Rhine" with the Concertgebouw is a classic of Sell's Schumann, but here comes a fascinating live performance of the 4th Symphony from the 1965 Cleveland Orchestra European tour in Paris! The European shows of that year were a series of masterpieces! The performance was as exhilarating as if you were whizzing down a freeway. The high ceilinged and airy environment of the Theatre des Champs Elysées pulled the orchestra along. Sell's own handiwork on Schumann's score was absolutely spot-on in every way. The Schumann concert with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, with whom he had a close relationship and made many guest appearances, is a well-known live performance, but it has not been released for a long time. The performance is romantic and well-dressed, with an emphasis on resonance, and really shows the diversity of Sell's expression. The depth of shadows in the fourth movement, as if one were in a German forest, is very moving. The sound quality is on par with the age of the recording, although the monaural version is a disappointment. The sound quality is good enough to appreciate. Muse Trade
