The story of the Passion, woven together by what could not be a better soloist, chorus, and the lustrous sounds of the Academy of Ancient Music, appears soft at first glance, but is in fact profound and austere, and the climax is full of dramatic expression, including a vivid exposition of the sinfulness of mankind.
