This is the first SACD release in high-resolution format using ORT mastering. DISC 1 contains \"Bach: Complete Cello Sonatas\" recorded with Sprafone in 1977, DISC 2 contains \"Starker\/Shirotori, Troimelai\" recorded with Yoshiyuki Iwasaki, who first recorded for Nippon Columbia during her visit to Japan in 1975, in the original order, and DISC 3 contains a recording of the \"Bach Sonatas\" made with Neriki Neriki during her 1978 visit to Japan. Starker\/Cello Pieces\" recorded with Shigeo Neriki during his first visit to Japan in 1978, and \"Casado\/Schubert\/Chopin\" with three pieces recorded at the same time, are coupled at the end of DISC 2 and 3, respectively. The Bach recordings were converted from analog master tapes to DSD, while the others were converted from PCM recordings to high-resolution using the ORT mastering system developed by Nippon Columbia, allowing the listener to enjoy the expanded soundstage and vividly improved sound quality only possible with SACD. The CD layer is also re-mastered. The CD layer has also been re-mastered to include all of the recordings made by the famous cellist János Starker (July 5, 1924 - April 28, 2013), who celebrated his 100th birthday this year (2024), for four LP recordings for Nippon Columbia. Since his first visit to Japan in 1960, Starkel has come to Japan 10 times, wowing audiences with his virtuosity, and on record, even before his first visit to Japan, he had been wowing connoisseurs with his masterful performances and recordings. In the 1970s and 1980s, Starkel was between the Mercury and BMG (RCA) periods, and except for the usual clause of not recording the same song within five years, he was a free-lance recording artist. It was against this backdrop that Starkel's important repertoire was successively recorded for Japanese record companies, including Nippon Columbia.DISC 1 is \"Bach: Complete Cello Sonatas,\" a co-production between Czech Sprafon and Nippon Columbia. Working with harpsichordist Ružičková (1927-2017) had been a longtime desire of Starker's. Starker had recorded the same piece in stereo with Mercury in 1963 with his close friend, pianist Jerzy Shebek (1922-99), but it is likely that he changed the instruments he played with for the re-recording. The recording is a beautiful combination of graceful, flowing, and perfectly finished playing. The performance is graceful, flowing, and perfectly finished.
