Maria Herz was one of the composers who were at the mercy of World War I and II. Because she was of Jewish descent, she was persecuted during World War II and moved around Europe, eventually dying in the United States. Her works, which have only recently been made public, are not well known today, but during her lifetime she was recognized by the musicians of her time and gave concerts in many places.
