Böhm's real talent is live performance! The WDR Cologne Radio Archived Edition of Böhm's \"Don Juan,\" \"Firebird\" Suite, and Mozart's 28th Symphony with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra has finally broken the seal and is now in full swing. This time, the WDR Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and the master conductor Böhm, who has long been known for his incandescent performances that show a different side of him from the studio recordings, will present a collection of previously unreleased live recordings. The program includes Mozart and Strauss, with whom Böhm has had a special relationship during his long career, and Stravinsky, whom he has been interested in from a surprisingly early stage. Strauss, with whom Böhm had a close friendship when he was music director in Hamburg and especially in Dresden, is highly regarded as a specialist. This Don Juan was performed when he was 82 years old, but the music is indeed outstanding, filled with a supremacy that one would hardly expect from a man of his age. Stravinsky was a composer that Böhm actively included in his programs from his days in Munich (1921-27). The same 1919 suite version of \"The Firebird\" was also performed in the live recording of the 1975 concert in Japan with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This is the first time that Böhm's music can be heard in a live recording, and it is the best testament to his sharp and assured musicality, clearly revealing the colorful, delicate, and crude character of the work. The period approach to Mozart's music has been studied extensively, and today's performance styles seem to have changed dramatically. Böhm, who became famous for his recordings of the complete works with the Berlin Philharmonic and later with the Vienna Philharmonic, still maintains an unwavering persuasiveness in his performance. Here, too, the freshness and crispness of the expression are truly refreshing. The archive is in an unexpectedly good state of preservation, and the live recording conveys the master's unique image. The duo will continue to perform Wuertin, Brahms, Beethoven, Bruckner, and other works in this series.
