In contrast, Dring’s *Fantasy Sonata* (1938) is imbued with a grand style reminiscent of Russian Expressionism and Bax, giving shape to musical ideas brimming with intense energy. In contrast, Carwizzen’s *Four Preludes* (1950) possesses a more naturalistic character. And particularly noteworthy is Howell’s *Boatsong*. It is undoubtedly the greatest discovery on this album.
