American twin piano duo, sisters Kristina & Michelle Norton. They studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia under Gary Graffman, Claude Frank, and Seymour Lipkin. They have been acclaimed for their "mystical musical communication" and "majestic artistry in perfect pairing," captivating audiences across the board. This album features works by four modern American composers. Placed at the beginning is "Short Ride in a Fast Machine," a masterpiece by John Adams, one of the proponents of minimal music, originally commissioned for orchestra as the opening piece for the Pittsburgh Outdoor Forest Festival, but in this piano duo version, the fresh sound bursting with the feeling of moving at high speed. Adams also performs another work, Roll over Beethoven, which uses material from Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and Sonata No. 31, and here we get a taste of the fantastic development of a familiar melody.Nancarrow is known for pushing the piano to its limits of its capabilities, and the furious development in his "Sonatine" is poignant music reminiscent of jazz improvisation. Schoenfield is known for a style that is both gloomy and joyful, and here again we hear a complex and joyful work that blends many materials. And Copland, who is said to "symbolize the formative process of American musical culture.
