Description:
On the 50th anniversary of the death of the famous conductor John Barbirolli, a complete limited edition box containing all of his recordings for the former EMI and PYE! These recordings, spanning more than 40 years, trace the career of the conductor John Barbirolli, a man of proverbial warmth and generosity, a transformative force in British music, and a legend who collaborated with the greatest artists of his time. They follow the trail of a legendary figure who, shortly before his death in 1970, completed a Sibelius Zycles with the Halle Orchestra, whose fortunes he had manipulated for nearly 30 years. Other composers closely associated with his name include Elgar, Dilius, Brahms, Mozart, Mahler, and Puccini. Including all of Barbirolli's recordings made for the former EMI and PYE, the extensive content of this groundbreaking 109-CD set includes previously unreleased items and documentary material: recordings from the LP era are from original master tapes, recordings from the 78 rpm SP era July 29, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of John Barbirolli, born in London in 1899 to Italian and French parents, who died at age 70.Renowned for the warmth, generosity, and attention to detail of his interpretations, the great British conductor was especially closely associated with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester, where he became music director in 1943. He changed the Halle's fortunes and was associated with the orchestra for 27 years. Barbirolli began his career as a cellist and established himself as a conductor in England in his 20s. He made his first contract with the New York Philharmonic in 1927, succeeding Toscanini, with whom he performed for seven seasons (1936-1943). This 109-CD Warner Classics set consists of all recordings made for the former EMI and PYE labels, from 1928-1970, including the Orchestre de Halle, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra/ All recordings first released on LP were made from the original master tapes, and those from the 78rpm SP era were made from the best available sources. All recordings originally released on LP have been remastered from the original master tapes, and the 78rpm SP recordings have been remastered from the best available sources at 24bit/192kHz.(1/2) Warner Music Japan
