Karim al-Zand's music has been described as "strong and surprisingly beautiful," with compositions inspired by a variety of art forms, including graphic art, mythology and fables, world folk music, film, spoken word, jazz, and more. In Study in Nature, the music is composed based on the fascinating illustrations of biologist and naturalist Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919), and the mystique of living things and nature can be felt in the music of this album.
