Gugnin won the second prize at the Beethoven International Competition in Vienna in 2013, the first prize at the Gina Bachauer International Competition in 2014, the first prize at the Sydney International Competition in 2016, and performed with Gergiev & the Mariinsky Theatre. He also won a special prize at the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Competition, and successfully performed in Japan twice, in May and September. The Godowsky Hommage program, which was performed during the September 2019 concert in Japan, is a collection of brilliant and technical piano works dedicated to the legendary master Leopold Godowsky, the 19th century "god of pianism," a genius of extreme virtuosity, whose 150th anniversary will be celebrated in 2020.
