Description:
A 15th century parchment manuscript discovered by the Fondation Alamire in Leuven in 2015 contained 12 previously unknown chansons. The Fondation Alamire informed the Belgian government of this significant find, which is now housed at the Parc Abbey in Leuven, where the foundation is headquartered. The manuscript is very small (120mm x 170mm when open) and contains only 50 songs. Most of them are of unknown authorship, written for three voices, and are similar in content to the chansonniers cordiformes (heart-shaped chansons) composed around the same time in faraway Savoie. The Ensemble Léones, who also previously recorded a piece from the chansonniers cordiformes (8.573325), explore various performance possibilities from a capella to instrumental ensemble. Naxos Japan
