The Bremen Baroque Orchestra, an up-and-coming period instrument orchestra founded in 2015 by baroque cellist Nestor Fabian Cortes Garçon, has recorded two overtures and a concerto by Telemann! Their second album on the arcantus label features two overtures and concertos by Telemann. Water Music - Hamburg's Tidal Ebb and Flow" is Telemann's version of "Music on the Water," composed for the 100th anniversary of Hamburg's naval township, and is a large-scale suite for festivities, based on a mythology about the sea and composed of dances. The other suite, "People of the Nations," depicts the past and present people of Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and other countries through dances, and is a suite filled with the ingenuity of Telemann, who studied the music of various ethnic groups. The Concerto in A minor, with its unusual solo instruments, viola da gamba and recorder, is a hidden masterpiece with its frequent use of dotted rhythms that give the piece a lively atmosphere. The Bremen Baroque Orchestra, led by Nestor Fabian Cortes Garçon, who studies ornamentation in Baroque performances, is a sharp ensemble full of improvisation that brings out the best of Telemann's inventive orchestration in these three works.Viola da gamba and recorder soloists also add to the performance with their outstanding technique.
