Description:
A performance by Gautier Capuçon & Yuja Wang that will make you wonder if flames will fly! Gautier Capuçon and Yuja Wang have been an intimate duo for years. Described as "an exquisite and flame-spattered duo," this new album by these two superstars was recorded in the studio after their 2019 North American tour and performance in Canada. By choosing two works of completely different character, Franck's Violin Sonata (cello version)) and Chopin's Cello Sonata, the duo succeeds in capturing the multifaceted nature of their fascinating musicianship and virtuosity. In the Franck sonata, Gauthier Capuçon plays the long, breathy phrases with great clarity, while Yuja Wang supports Gauthier's sound by thoughtfully playing the slow melody at the beginning of the piece. In the first movement, she does not yet use her usual superb technique, but rather conveys the work's greatness through sound alone. As the movement progresses, the sound exchanges are "like flames flying out," and the final movement completes the great story in a way that can only be described as brilliant.Chopin's "Cello Sonata," in which the piano plays a major role, is truly Yuja Wang's solo stage. The "Introduction and Brilliant Polonaise," another early Chopin work, overwhelmed the audience with frightening power, reminding them of the deep musicality of Chopin's late masterpieces. The pleasant aftertaste of Piazzolla's tango is also unforgettable. Warner Music Japan
