Jimi Hendrix's great legacy was also Electric Lady Studios!

The luxury box set "Electric Lady Studios: Visions" contains 39 songs (38 of them previously unreleased) recorded at Electric Lady Studios by the new Jimi Hendrix Experience with Billy Cox on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums from June to August 1970, just before Jimi Hendrix's untimely death. The three CDs contain 39 songs (38 of which are previously unreleased material) recorded at Electric Lady Studios. The Blu-ray disc also includes a video documentary that chronicles the birth of the groundbreaking recording studio in New York City, as well as 20 newly 5.1-mixed audio tracks.

A previously unreleased version of "Angel (Take 7)" will be released prior to the project. This version, which has been stripped down in a new mix, is the first performance recorded by Hendrix, Mitchell, and Cox on July 23, 1970. It is a previously unreleased version that does not include any of the drums or percussion that Mitchell decided to add to this master after Jimi's death. The three CDs included in the box set "Electric Lady Studio: Visions" (the five LPs are available only on the import version) contain 39 tracks recorded in the studio by Jimi and his band, bassist Billy Cox and drummer Mitch Mitchell, during the last four months of the guitarist's life. The album will feature 39 songs recorded in the studio during the last four months of the guitarist's life. Hendrix was hard at work on First Rays of the New Rising Sun, an ambitious double album that would follow his 1968 classic Electric Ladyland. Inspired by the possibilities in the new studio, the Experience created "Night Bird Flying," "Freedom," and "Dolly Dagger" from scratch. This set is a comprehensive collection of Hendrix's work from that fruitful summer of 1970. The songs include four-track demos of "Values of Neptune" and "Heaven Has No Solo," separate arrangements of highly developed songs like "Come Down Hard on Me" and "Belly Buttun Window," "Tune X/In From the Storm," " Astro Man," a special live studio take of "The Long Medley," and spontaneous 26-minute sessions of "Beginnings," "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)," "Keep on Groovin'" and "Freedom. In addition, the box set includes many of the mixes the guitarist completed with engineer Eddie Kramer before he left for Europe on August 30 for a festival appearance on the Isle of Wight, England. Hendrix never returned to Electric Lady Studios after that.

The Blu-ray will include the acclaimed feature-length documentary Electric Lady Studios: Vision. Inspired by Hendrix's desire for a permanent studio, the film chronicles the birth of the studio, which grew from the wreckage of a bankrupt Manhattan nightclub into a state-of-the-art recording facility. Directed by John McDermott and produced by Jayne Hendrix, George Scott, and McDermott, the film features Steve Winwood, who participated in Hendrix's first recording session at the new studio, Experience bassist Billy Cox, and the original Electric Lady crew who helped Hendrix realize his dream. The documentary also includes previously unreleased footage and photos, as well as track-by-track analysis of classic Hendrix songs such as "Freedom," "Angel," and "Dolly Dagger" by recording engineer Eddie Kramer.

While Jimi Hendrix's death deprived the public of much of the music that was to follow, the continued success of his recording studio provides an enduring legacy that goes beyond his own music, explained in depth. The fact that John Lennon, The Clash, AC/DC, Chic, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, and over 100 other groups have made albums at Electric Lady Studios makes Jimi's enduring achievements appealing in an industry that has changed rapidly over the past half century. The Japanese edition of the film can be enjoyed with Japanese subtitles.

The Blu-ray also includes the album "First Rays of the New Rising Sun" and a bonus track with a new 5.1 surround sound mix of all 20 songs. The newly 5.1 mixes include all 17 tracks from the posthumously released "First Rays of the New Rising Sun" (released in 1997, recorded 1968-70), "Paris Gap" from "Rainbow Bridge" (released in 1971, recorded 1970), " The Jimi Hendrix Box Set" (released in 2000, recorded in 1970), "Lover Man" from "Values of Neptune" (released in 2010, recorded 1969-70).

The import version of the package includes a gorgeous color booklet filled with previously unpublished photos, song drafts by Hendrix himself, and comprehensive liner notes. The Japanese edition of the CD and Blu-ray discs will include a Japanese booklet with a complete translation of the English commentary as well as lyrics, bilingual translation, and narrative translation.

My brother had a musical vision," Jayne Hendricks recalls. "I felt it was appropriate for this project to shine a light not only on his own music, but also on his enduring contributions to Electric Lady Studios. He was truly driven to build a home base where he could record everything he felt. His life was cut too short, but there are so many talented artists still expressing themselves within those magical walls at 52 West 8th Street.

In honor of this upcoming release, on August 8, New York City will temporarily name the portion of West 8th Street in Manhattan between 6th Avenue and MacDougal Street Jimi Hendrix Way. The Electric Lady Studios were built there and still exist today, and a media viewing event will be held that evening inside the Electric Lady Studios.

The film was produced by the same team that produced the feature documentary "Music, Money, Madness...Jimi Hendrix Live in Maui," which was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Motion Picture category in 2022.
